Armed men loot Rs 90 lakh from bank in Bihar's Araria

PATNA/ARARIA: Six armed robbers looted Rs 90 lakh from the Axis Bank branch at ADB Chowk in Araria on Tuesday.

The members of Tiger Mobile and QRT police teams were suspended by the order of Araria SP Ashok Kumar Singh.

The robbers had their faces covered with masks. They fired three rounds in the air before making good their escape.

According to police, the robbers locked the bank employees and customers in a room at gunpoint around 12 noon and threatened to kill if anybody tried to resist or raise an alarm.

“Police officers are screening the CCTV footages to get some clues and identify the culprits,” the SP said

Town police station SHO Nirmal Yadvendu said raids were being conducted to nab the miscreants, who escaped on their motorbikes after the bank robbery.

“The exact amount looted from the bank will be known once we get the written application from the bank. The bank officials are still checking the register to ascertain the cash looted. The amount may increase,” he said.
