GHAZIABAD: An 18-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old scrap dealer to death following a drunken altercation in Vijay Nagar, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Piyush, a Delhi resident, was arrested after a probe aided by CCTV footage and local inputs, said Sachin Kumar, SHO of Kotwali police station.Police said the incident occurred on March 16, when they received information about a man with stab injuries. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where he died on March 18.The deceased was identified as Monu, a Bulandshahr native who lived in Vijay Nagar with his family and worked as a scrap dealer.“Initially, a complaint was filed against two persons, but their involvement could not be established during the investigation. CCTV footage showed the victim with the accused, though the face was not clearly visible. With the help of manual inputs, we identified and arrested him,” the SHO said.During interrogation, Piyush told police he had come from Delhi to his maternal grandparents’ house in Vijay Nagar. He was under the influence of alcohol when he accidentally collided with Monu on the road, leading to an argument. He then allegedly stabbed Monu multiple times.
After the attack, Piyush and his associate, Aman alias Kalu, fled by crossing nearby railway tracks. He was later found near a mobile tower at Dhobi Ghat, allegedly waiting for an opportunity to escape, when police apprehended him.Based on a complaint by the victim’s father, Naresh, police registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide) of BNS, stating that there was no clear intent to murder.
