Doctor arrested on charge of rape in Nashik

Nashik: The Upnagar police arrested a 52-year-old doctor on the charge of raping a 23-year-old woman when the latter was at his clinic on Saturday.

Soon after the complaint was lodged on Sunday, the police arrested the doctor. The doctor initially was remanded in a day’s custody. On Monday, he was remanded in 14-days of judicial custody.

The police said that the complainant in the case suffers from hemorrhoids, and she had gone to the doctor for a routine check-up on Saturday at 7.30pm. During the check-up, the doctor allegedly indulged in inappropriate acts and spoke to the woman in lewd language, the police said.

According to the complainant, the doctor also demanded sexual favours from her. The woman subsequently went to the Upnagar police station and registered a complaint in the early hours of Sunday.

The Upnagar police registered a case against the doctor under relevant sections of the BNS for rape, outraging modesty, sexual harassment and insulting modesty of woman through words, gesture or an act.

The police said they were investigating the case.
