Woman ends life over alleged dowry harassment
Nagpur: A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide following dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, police said.The deceased, Sana Anjum Akil Khan, a resident of Ganjipeth, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home on April 7 around 5pm.Sana had married Shoaib alias Saif Ayub Khan (30) in 2024. Police said she was allegedly subjected to sustained physical and mental torture by her husband, father-in-law Naseem (57), mother-in-law, and sister-in-law Sameena alias Soni (35), who repeatedly demanded money.While the case was initially registered as a sudden death, subsequent investigation indicated abetment to suicide. Based on the findings, a case has been registered against all four accused under Sections 80, 85, 108, 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, at Ganeshpeth Police Station.
