Water supply disrupted in parts of West Nagpur after ‘valve tampering’
Nagpur: Residents of several areas in West Nagpur faced water scarcity amid scorching heat on Friday after disruption in supply from the distribution centre near Nagpur University Campus. Private water operator OCW alleged that the disruption was caused after Ward 13 corporator Yogesh Pachpor and his associate forcibly operated a valve at the distribution centre, affecting water supply to areas including Sanjay Nagar and Trust Layout. OCW officials claimed nearly 12,000 to 14,000 consumers were impacted due to the incident. Water supply from the centre is normally carried out between 6.30pm and 9.30pm. However, officials claimed that improper handling of the valve led to depletion of water stock by 8pm, resulting in supply being cut short.Pachpor refuted the allegations and denied interfering with the system in any manner. The corporator clarified that he visited the distribution centre in his capacity as a member of the Water Supply Committee to inspect the functioning of the distribution system and understand the supply mechanism. He further said that the operator at the centre explained the entire process to him during the visit.
