SBI Cards and Payment Services Pvt Ltd is an independent entity managed jointly by State Bank of India and GE Money.
Mandlekar had lodged a complaint with the consumer court that he was handed over a bill of Rs 19,000 by the company despite the fact that he had no dues pending against his credit card. The card was used only on three occasions and the outstanding amount was cleared way back in 2006 which was also mentioned by SBI within 45 days.
In spite of making the payment, Mandlekar got a bill for Rs 19,000 from the company. But he refused to pay and lodged a complaint with the consumer court which ruled in his favour saying that he need not pay even a single paisa to the company. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 on the company. But it did not pay heed to the court orders and allegedly continued to harass Mandlekar.
Mandlekar said that “The company officials called me up regularly, telling me to pay up. They even sent Kunal Sani, a recovery agent who tried to force his way”.
As the orders were not followed, the court sentenced the three accused to six months’ imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each for contempt.
