Nagpur: Two students injured in the school van crash on Mankapur flyover were discharged on Saturday, while three continued to remain in hospital following orthopaedic and plastic surgeries to repair fractures and muscle injuries. The accident claimed the lives of 14-year-old Saanvi Khobragade and driver Hritik Kanojia.
Saanvi's younger brother Adiraj (9) is admitted in the high dependency unit (HDU) ward of a private hospital with a fractured leg. He underwent surgery on Friday. Class 4 student Kavya Kedar required plastic surgery for a muscle injury. Rehanshika Shende, who sustained minor injuries, was discharged.
Yash Mishra (13) suffered abrasions on his limbs and complained of severe headache due to cerebral concussion. Class 6 student Hrudya Suryawanshi had minor injuries from a hematoma and blunt injury to her left leg. Swayam Thakre (10) was treated on an OPD basis for minor injuries. Two more children were allowed to go home after first aid.
Dr Shishir Shrivastava, director of Kunal Hospital, said all of them had retrograde amnesia (memory loss) as none could recall the incident. Mishra and Suryawanshi, admitted at Kunal hospital, were discharged on Saturday.
"Both were doing well despite concussion. We wanted to keep them under observation for one more day, but parents insisted on discharge. Hence, we released them against medical advice," he said.
Kavya was shifted to general ward, and another set of clinical examinations will be conducted on Sunday before doctors decide on discharge, relatives said.
Adiraj was accompanied by a relative, as his mother attended Saanvi's funeral. "He hasn't been informed about her demise yet. He too underwent surgery and needs time to recover," said a family member.
