Newborn girl’s body found in garbage dump at Hill Top

Nagpur: The body of a newborn baby girl was found in a garbage heap opposite Godavari Apartment in Hill Top on Wednesday, sending shockwaves among local residents.The infant was found in a garbage collection area in front of the residential building, following which Ambazari police rushed to the spot and began investigations.A health official source said the baby appeared to have been delivered barely two hours before being found. The umbilical cord was still uncut, and some medical equipment was recovered from the scene, raising suspicion. However, police refrained from commenting on the possibility of foul play.Sources said there are no private hospitals, clinics or nursing homes in the immediate vicinity, though a primary health centre operates nearby.Ambazari police registered an offence under sections related to abandonment of a newborn resulting in death. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify those responsible.
