Nagpur: A case was filed against a man for allegedly behaving indecently with women sanitary workers of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) near Ambazari. The accused, whose full name is yet to be confirmed but was identified as ‘Parate', is a resident of a nearby slum and is absconding. Municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar ordered an inquiry into the incident.
According to officials, the incident occurred when a hand trolley used by sanitation workers was parked near the accused's residence during routine garbage collection. Parate allegedly approached the trolley and dumped his household waste into it without permission. When the workers objected to his action, he reportedly spoke to them rudely and inappropriately.
The affected workers — Mamta Arkhel, Maya Bondekar, and their supervisor (jamadar) Kavita Arkhel — were allegedly subjected to indecent remarks, prompting them to approach the local police station and lodge a complaint. Based on their statement, a case was registered against the accused.
Police teams later visited Parate's residence to apprehend him, but he was not found and is believed to have fled after the incident.
Efforts are currently under way to trace and arrest him.
Assistant commissioner of Dharampeth zone, Rajkumar Meshram, told TOI that the sanitary workers have been summoned to his office for recording statements. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, he added.
