Man driving under influence of marijuana nabbed

Nagpur: A driver was charged under the Anti-narcotics Law and Motor Vehicles Act on Saturday after testing positive for marijuana during a surprise check by the city police under the ‘Operation U-Turn' campaign.The anti-narcotics squad had set up a checkpoint on Wardha Road and used advanced on-the-spot drug testing kits to screen suspicious vehicles. During the drive, one driver's sample tested positive for marijuana. The man has been taken into custody and is being interrogated at Sonegaon Police Station."With modern drug detection kits, officers can now identify narcotics instantly, making enforcement more effective," said CP Ravinder Singal.DCP (traffic) Lohit Matani has warned that such checking operations will be ramped up across Nagpur in the coming days, targeting speeding, wrong-side driving and substance abuse.The Nagpur city police appealed to citizens to cooperate and avoid driving under any form of intoxication. "Road safety is a shared responsibility. By following traffic rules and staying away from drugs or alcohol while driving, we can save precious lives," said CP Singal.
