Koradi temple’s 188-ft Hanuman idol project to get futuristic touch

Nagpur: The under-construction 188-ft Hanuman idol at the iconic Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Temple in Koradi is set to combine spirituality with technology-driven attractions, positioning the site as a major religious-tourism destination. Touted as India's tallest Hanuman idol, the project is part of a broader plan to transform the temple precinct into a modern devotional and recreational hub.Backed by a ₹5 crore allocation under the Regional Tourism Development Fund, the development includes a holographic dome theatre and an experiential museum showcasing immersive mythological narratives centred on Lord Hanuman.The proposed museum, estimated to cost ₹3–4 crore, will feature projection mapping, interactive LED installations, and sound-and-light storytelling. Visitors will experience 360-degree visual presentations designed to offer an engaging interpretation of religious themes.Authorities are also planning recreational facilities to widen the project's appeal. Upcoming phases will include an amusement park, a children's adventure zone, a 7D theatre, VR gaming areas, immersive attractions, and a go-karting track aimed at attracting families and younger visitors while retaining the site's spiritual focus.The Hanuman idol remains the centrepiece of the ₹11.50 crore project, of which around ₹6.47 crore has been spent since construction began in July 2023. Originally slated for completion in January 2025, the deadline has now been extended to May 30, 2026.The foundation and pedestal were constructed by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited, while the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) is overseeing execution and phased development of the surrounding temple complex.To advance the next phase, NMRDA has floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting private developers to participate in the design, development, investment, and long-term operation of the museum and allied attractions."We are also encouraging bidders to propose additional concepts and demonstrate prior experience in managing large-scale, technology-driven tourism projects," an official said.Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule indicated that Union home minister Amit Shah may inaugurate the statue in the coming months.
