Folk dancer’s roadshow sparks political spat in Chandrapur

Chandrapur: A high-profile political spat was triggered in Chandrapur after Congress roped in folk dancer Gautami Patil for its roadshow on January 13, triggering a war of words between senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar and Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar.Mungantiwar alleged that Congress was unable to attract even a single senior leader to campaign in Chandrapur. "A dancer will now ask to vote for Congress, and perhaps even solve Chandrapur's civic problems if the party wins," he said sarcastically.Wadettiwar accused the BJP of hypocrisy. Pointing to past elections in Mul municipal council, he said BJP had itself relied on film personalities for campaigning. "Was the actress brought there to save BJP?" he asked, adding that Gautami Patil is an artist and there was nothing inappropriate in involving cultural figures in election outreach.
