Enroachments & garbage dumping choke locality: KT Nagar residents' pleas fall on NMC's dead ears

Nagpur: Alleging official inaction despite multiple complaints and inspections, residents of KT Nagar have accused the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) of failing to curb encroachments and improper waste disposal that continue to affect living conditions in the locality. According to residents, several commercial establishments, including food outlets and garages operating near the area, have encroached upon public roads and open spaces in two housing societies. They alleged that garbage is routinely dumped near residential societies, creating unhygienic conditions and raising health concerns. "We have repeatedly complained against a pizza outlet that diverts food waste into the septic tank. The tank gets choked frequently, causing drainage water to enter our water meter chamber. Despite repeated representations, the issue remains unresolved," a resident alleged. Residents said officials from the NMC's Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) visited the site on at least three occasions. However, the violations persisted, and complainants were never informed about the outcome of the inspections. They questioned why no enforcement action followed despite repeated inspections and complaints. Dharampeth Zone assistant commissioner Rajkumar Meshram recently visited the area along with NDS officials and reportedly issued a notice to the concerned outlet, directing it to clean the septic tank and remove garbage accumulated near the societies. However, residents remain sceptical about the effectiveness of the latest intervention, saying similar assurances in the past have failed to produce a lasting solution. They have now urged the civic administration to initiate sustained action against encroachments and improper waste disposal, arguing that strict monitoring and penalties are essential to prevent recurring violations and improve living conditions in the area.
