Nagpur: A 16-year-old Class 10 student was killed after a speeding truck rammed the scooter he was riding with his mother while they were returning home after his board examination on Tuesday afternoon.The accident occurred around 2pm near Pili Nadi Parking Plaza under Yashodhara Nagar police station limits.

Rina Meshram (40) was driving her son, Atharva (16), back home after he appeared for his board exam when an unidentified truck, allegedly being driven rashly and at high speed, hit their scooter (MH 49 AM 8984) and fled the spot. The impact threw the mother-son duo onto the road.Atharva sustained grievous injuries and was declared dead during treatment at a private hospital. His mother suffered minor injuries and is recuperating.Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's father, Chandrashekhar (48), a resident of Chandramani Nagar, Ajni, police registered a case against the unknown driver under BNS Sections 106(1), 281, 125(A), 125(B) and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act (Sections 134, 177, 184).Senior Inspector Sandeep Buwa of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station said the accused truck driver was traced based on CCTV footage. "The truck belonged to a business house whose name was visible on the vehicle in the footage. We contacted the trader and have seized the truck," Buwa said.
