850+ in draft electoral roll for Nagpur MLC bypoll
Nagpur: The electorate for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council by-election from the Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency is expected to comprise over 850 elected representatives from 32 local self-govt bodies across the district.The district administration, which recently published the draft electoral roll and polling station list on May 22, has given elected representatives across the district eight-day window for scrutiny, corrections and objections.The 32 local self-govt bodies across the district include the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), municipal councils, nagar panchayats, parishads and cantonment boards. As per the draft electoral roll, 150 electors are from the NMC city limits, while the majority of the electorate comprises elected representatives from rural local bodies.The bypoll was necessitated after revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule resigned from the Legislative Council following his election to the state assembly. The winning candidate will serve the remainder of the term till Jan 1, 2028.The district administration has made draft electoral roll and polling station details available at designated offices, including the Zilla Parishad, Municipal Corporation, municipal councils, nagar panchayats and tehsil places. The administration has also uploaded the draft voter list on the official website of the Nagpur district collectorate.Objections, corrections and claims can be submitted in writing till May 28 at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer for the Local Authorities' Constituency or the District Collector's office in Nagpur, said officials.As per the election schedule, the notification will be issued on May 25, while the last date for filing nominations is June 1. Candidates can withdraw nominations till June 4. Polling will take place between 8am and 4pm on June 18, followed by counting and declaration of results on June 22.
