Vedike protest against mini-hydroelectric project

HASSAN: Some 50 activists of KarnatakaRakshana Vedike along with Kyanhalli villagers blocked the Bangalore-MangaloreNH-48 near Sakleshpur, while protesting to stop the work of mini-hydroelectricproject at Kyanahalli on Monday morning.Soon after blocking theNH-48, police officials rushed to the spot and arrested the protesters. Theywere released later.The protesters had marched from the Sakleshpur tollgate to the bus stand there. Traffic services were disrupted for a while. Protesters urged the government to save the Western Ghats by stopping the works of the mini-hydro project which was handled by a private company. Manu Kumar and some other leaders of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike were present.
