Mandya: Upalokayukta Justice B Veerappa Friday ordered officials to shift a govt hostel to a better facility within 15 days after a surprise inspection revealed poor living conditions.
During visits to the Dr BR Ambedkar Girls’ Hostel and the Valmiki Hostel at Bandigowda Layout, students flagged a lack of basic amenities, unhygienic surroundings, poorly maintained toilets and substandard food. They also expressed dissatisfaction with hostel administration.
Taking serious note, Justice Veerappa directed officials to immediately address students’ grievances and warned govt staff against corruption, negligence and irresponsible public service.
DC Kumara and SP Shobharani were present during the inspection.
Meanwhile, during his two-day visit to Mandya, Justice Veerappa disposed of 124 cases out of 256 complaints received.
