Mysuru district advances comprehensive voters mapping
Mysuru: Deputy commissioner G Lakshimikanth Reddy on Monday said that the district administration has set out to cover 100% of electorates during the ongoing voters mapping exercise that is being carried out as per the direction of election commission as a prelude to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
As voters’ SIR will begin from June 20, the voters mapping exercise will be carried out till June 19.
Chairing the meeting with representatives of various political parties to discuss the issues related to voters mapping exercise held at ZP hall, he said that directions were given to assistant returning officers (AROs) to cover all voters who were left out of the mapping exercise.
Mysuru district has 2,975 polling booths where it has appointed 2,915 booth level officials (BLOs) to carry out the exercise. The district recorded 18,14,074 voters in the 2002 revision. The total electorate has increased to 27,99,931 voters by Jan 2025.
The district has so far covered 24,61,968 voters during the ongoing mapping exercise. The district administration has expedited the progress of the remaining 3,37,961 electorates for mapping during the ongoing exercise, which will be held till June 19. The district has covered 88% of the voters during the mapping exercise so far.
The mapping exercise, which will be carried out as pre-SIR, is primarily focused on mapping the electoral list as on Jan 1, 2025, with that of the 2002 list when the last SIR was conducted. During the mapping exercise, BLOs, enumerators verify the names of voters in both the lists with that of their parents if the voters’ names did not figure in the previous list.
The DC, who cleared the doubts of political party leaders, said that all eligible voters will not be dropped during the exercise. He asked the political parties to bring to his notice directly by meeting him if they found issues regarding the ongoing mapping exercise of voters of the district. No voters’ names will be deleted during the ongoing exercise.
During the visit, BLOs will hand over two forms to each voter. One copy must be filled and returned, while the second will remain with the voter. Any adult member of a family can sign the forms. Once filled and signed, the name will be part of the draft roll, he said.
Additional deputy commissioner R Aishwarya, MDA in-charge commissioner KR Rakshith, and others were present.
