Mahadevappa urges citizens to maintain cleanliness in Mysuru city
Mysuru: District minister HC Mahadevappa inaugurated the Swachhata Roadshow organised by the Mysuru City Corporation here on Sunday, calling on citizens to actively participate in maintaining the city's cleanliness and public health.Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that several awareness programmes are being conducted across the city to educate people about cleanliness, harmful effects of drug abuse, and importance of maintaining good health. He urged residents to cooperate with the govt and contribute towards building a cleaner and healthier Mysuru.

Mahadevappa noted that the global reputation of Mysuru is closely associated with the legacy of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, whose vision helped transform the city into one of the most well-planned urban centres in the country. It is the collective responsibility of every citizen to preserve this legacy by keeping the city clean for future generations, he said. The minister lauded the dedication of sanitation workers, also known as Pourakarmikas, describing them as "cleanliness soldiers" who play a vital role in maintaining public hygiene. He stressed that cleanliness cannot be achieved by the govt alone and called upon people to adopt responsible civic habits.
He specifically urged citizens to refrain from spitting in public places, littering on roads, and allowing pets to defecate in open spaces, adding that Mysuru could become even more beautiful if people strictly follow such discipline. Women's Day Marking International Women's Day on Sunday, Mahadevappa highlighted the importance of promoting women's education, equality, economic independence, and political participation. He acknowledged the contributions of BR Ambedkar in framing laws that guarantee equal rights and opportunities for women, emphasising their crucial role in building strong families and a progressive society. The roadshow featured a procession of vintage cars, bikers, folk artists, students, civic groups, and sanitation workers, all spreading awareness about cleanliness. MLAs Tanveer Sait, GT Devegowda and K Harish Gowda, along with MLC CN Manjegowda, deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy G, and Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, were present.
