Mysuru: Novelist and thinker Devanura Mahadeva has been selected for the prestigious Pampa Award by the state govt.
Every year, the state govt selects eminent personalities who have rendered distinguished service in the field of literature, and have made exceptional contribution to Kannada and Karnataka for the award, instituted in the name of Adikavi Pampa. Poet laureate Kuvempu was the first recipient of the award in 1987.
Born in Devanura village in Nanjangud taluk in 1948, Mahadeva pursued his PG in Kannada literature from the University of Mysore.
He was bestowed the Central Sahitya Akademi award in 1990, and Padma Shri in 2011. But he returned both the awards in 2015.
Noted theatre personality from Shivamogga Prasanna is selected for BV Karant Award. Shri Bhanukeerti Bhattaraka seer of Kambadahalli in Mandya district is selected for Shri Bhagavan Mahaveera National Peace Award. Sculptor from Shivamogga, Ashok Gudigar, is selected for Jakanachari Award, while Pratibha Prahlad is selected for Shantala Natyarani Award. M Mahadeva Swamy from Mandya is selected for Janapadashri Award.
