Thane: A Thane court on Wednesday granted transit remand till June 5 to 26-year-old Huzaifa Farooque Ahmed Hashmi, arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in a joint operation with the Maharashtra ATS for his links with an alleged Pakistan ISI- and Mumbai underworld-linked module.
Sources said investigators suspect that Hashmi had been in contact over the past month with Yawar Khan, an alleged Pakistan-based operative, a claim that forms part of the ongoing probe.
During the hearing, the magistrate asked the accused whether he was aware of the reasons for his arrest. Hashmi replied in the affirmative. The Special Cell informed the court that the accused needed to be taken to Delhi for further investigation and production before the competent court at Patiala House Courts.
Investigators reportedly placed before the court screenshots of chats and banking transactions allegedly linked to the case.
Judicial Magistrate First Class S N Kannurkar directed the investigating officer to produce Hashmi before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi, or the competent jurisdictional court within the stipulated period while ensuring all constitutional and statutory safeguards during transit and custody.
