Smoke at T2 Mumbai Metro station: Services hit for 30 minutes

Mumbai: Services on Metro Line 3 were partially disrupted for around 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon after smoke was detected at the CSMIA T2 station. There were no injuries.A fire brigade official said 3 fire engines and 2 jumbo tankers reached the site and the fire was doused by 4.45 pm. Smoke permeated the underground station premises, due to which the firefighters had to use breathing apparatus. The official said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), a minor smoke incident was reported at the station around 4.15 pm and was promptly attended to by the on-site team. As a precautionary measure, the station was briefly evacuated and trains skipped the CSMIA T2 station during the half-hour period.Metro services between Aarey JVLR and Sahar Road stations were temporarily suspended for around 30 minutes between 4.15 pm and 4.45 pm. However, services on the rest of the corridor, including the stretch between Cuffe Parade and Sahar Road, continued to operate normally.Officials said the disruption was limited to the affected section near the airport stations. Normal train operations were restored after the smoke was brought under control."All necessary safety protocols were followed and the situation is fully under control," MMRCL said in a statement.
