Mumbai: The prime suspect in the brutal murder of a young man at Powai was arrested in
Uttar Pradesh, where he was hiding after changing his appearance. His associate is wanted in the case.
On May 25, police had found the dead body of an unknown person, subsequently identified as Yusuf, at Tunga Village in Powai. He had a stab wound on his chest, caused by a sharp object.
Police registered a murder case and formed eight teams. Yusuf was a pavement dweller. Police scanned footage from 100 to 110 CCTVs. They also quizzed around 25 suspects. Investigations showed that two men were involved in the murder and had left the city.
The prime accused, Pramod Verma, 24, was tracked down to Banda district in UP and taken into custody. Verma had changed his appearance and cut his hair to evade the police. Police said Verma and Yusuf had a dispute in the past and Verma committed the murder with the help of a aide, Deepak Verma, who is on the run.
