Labourer falls to death from 27th floor of redevelopment building in Vashi
Navi Mumbai: A 29-year-old labourer died after falling from the 27th floor of a building under redevelopment in Vashi on Tuesday around 4pm. Prima facie, Vashi police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) under relevant section of Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) that mandates the police to inquire and report on unnatural deaths. The deceased labourer has been identified as Mohammad Imran Ibrahim Khan. As per the complaint lodged by a co-labourer Mohammad Kamran Ibrahim Khan (20), the incident occured when the victim Imran was doing PVP work in the lobby on the 27th floor of B-Wing of the building under redevelopment by Advika-Arihant construction firm in sector-9A, Vashi. Imran lost his balance while he was fitting a screw with the drill machine and fell from the high-rise and landed on the ground. He suffered serious multiple injuries to his head, hands, legs and other body parts. He was immediately rushed to the NMMC hospital in Vashi, where he was declared brought dead him dead.Meanwhile, MNS city president Gajanan Kale has claimed that the Arihant-Advika redevelopment building in Vashi Sector 9 is a death trap. Since, two workers have died in two months during redevelopment by the builder.Gajanan Kale said, "On March 4, a labourer Pawan Kumar Lakhichand Mahato (21) had died tragically while the construction work was being carried out at Arihant Advika redevelopment building at Plot No. 8, Sector 9, Vashi. Taking serious note of this, I had filed a complaint with the NMMC commissioner, Town Planning Department and the Deputy Commissioner of Labour stating that the labourer had died due to violation of rules regarding the safety of the workers. Thereafter the Deputy Commissioner of Labour inspected the construction site and issued a prohibition order on April 13 asking the developer to stop the work as no rules regarding worker safety were being followed. However, the developer continued the construction work and on April 28, another labourer, Mohammad Imran Ibrahim Khan had died after falling from the 27th floor, as he was not provided with safety gears like an harness and head gear."Kale added, "The concerned administration should take immediate action regarding this serious incident and revoke the commencement certificate (CC) of the said construction firm. The Deputy Commissioner of Labor should provide a large amount of financial assistance to the families of both the laborers who have died while at work at the construction site. Also, considering the seriousness of the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Labor and NMMC Commissioner should file a criminal case against the concerned developer and the contractor, otherwise, MNS will take to the streets and stage a strong protest against at the offices of NMMC and Labour Department."
