MUMBAI: Two Kenyan students were booked by the CST GRP on Monday for hitting a constable with his own lathi when he intervened in an altercation between the duo and a group of employees at a food stall. A separate case was also registered against the food stall employees for roughing up the two Kenyans. No arrests have been made so far.
According to the GRP, the Kenyan nationals, Geoffrey Kiama Kimoya and Tony Shakha Zuku, are in India on a student visa and are studying in Delhi.

Around 9 pm on Sunday, the Kenyan students had dinner and some beer at a restaurant in Byculla West. Between 12.30 and 1 pm, they came to Byculla station platform numbers 2-3 and sat on a bench. One of them realised that his cellphone was missing. He started looking for it and asked a group of employees at a food stall nearby if they had seen it. But the workers did not give him answers properly. Enraged, the Kenyan student slapped one of the workers. This resulted in a full blown fight. Four to five workers got together and rained kicks and blows on the two students.
"Between 1 am and 1.30 am, GRP constable Prakash Kumbhar reached the spot and intervened in the fight. He was trying to break up the two groups when the Kenyan students snatched his lathi and hit Kumbhar on the head," said deputy commissioner Rupali Ambure.
Kumbhar sustained head injuries. The Kenyan students too had been injured after being thrashed by the food stall workers. Both the students and Kumbhar were taken to the JJ Hospital where they were administered treatment and released.
"We have charged the group of four to five food stall workers for unlawful assembly and causing hurt. The Kenyan students have been booked for assaulting a government servant," said an official from CST GRP.
