Mumbai: A 39-year-old woman from Sion has filed a cheating complaint against directors of an investment firm for allegedly duping her family and over 150 investors of nearly Rs 10 crore by promising high returns through an agriculture-based investment scheme.
The Shivaji Park police have booked Sachin Phadtare, Nikhil Shellar and Neogreen Ventures and Neogreen Agriculture under BNS sections for cheating, breach of trust and banning of unregulated deposit scheme Act 2019.
Complainant Aarti Thackeray, a resident of Pratiksha Nagar, said
she and her husband visited the company's office at Kohinoor Square in Dadar West, where company representatives claimed the firm produced moringa powder for export and offered investors a return of 50% annually. Lured by the promise, Thackeray invested Rs 5 lakh, her husband invested Rs 1 lakh, and her mother Deepali Saple invested Rs 2 lakh, all in cash, under a five-year investment plan.
When she demanded the money, the accused allegedly cited financial losses and later stopped responding.
