Instead, the bike was crushed under the wheels of the trailer, killing Shaikh on the spot.
Khan, who was in a critical condition, was rushed to Rajawadi Hospita where he was admitted to the ICU. But he died around 7 in the evening, said the police.
As his relatives learnt about Khan's death, they started to protest against the "lack of care and negligence" shown by the hospital staff. All possible care was not given to the deceased, they claimed. Before anyone could stop them, the mob of Khan's relatives and friends reportedly went on the rampage, breaking hospital property and even thrashing a doctor, Prashant, and nurse Prachi Shirke, said a the police.
The authorities had to call in the police to rein in the unruly mob.
The incident has again brought to the fore doctors grievance that the government did little when it came to protecting state- and municipal corporation-run hospital doctors from goons.
The Saturday attack comes a few weeks after the assault on doctors and health staff of the corporation -run Bhabha Hospital in Bandra.
