Central Railway staff assist safe delivery of baby boy in LTT-Dibrugarh Express
Mumbai: Central Railway staff, aided by alert passengers, helped a pregnant woman safely deliver a baby boy onboard Train No. 15945 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus–Dibrugarh Express between Bhusaval and Itarsi stations on Saturday evening.
“The emergency unfolded around 5.25pm when a passenger, Ravi Chaudhary, sought urgent assistance from train conductor S P Phirke and train ticket examiner Ambreesh Kumar Tiwari at Bhusaval. He said his wife, Jyoti, had gone into sudden, intense labour and her condition was worsening,” said CR chief spokesperson Swapnil Nila.
Responding swiftly, the running staff organised a clean, secure space in the gallery of Coach B-6, using blankets and bedsheets to ensure privacy and comfort. At 5.28pm, the on-duty team alerted Bhopal control and requested immediate medical support, including a doctor and an ambulance, to be arranged at Harda station. The control room confirmed that assistance would be kept ready.
With the train still in motion, the staff, supported by women passengers, assisted Jyoti in delivering a healthy baby boy at 5.40pm. The newborn’s first cries brought visible relief across the coach, said an official.
The train reached Harda station at 6.07pm, where RPF personnel, station staff, a woman constable, and helpers were positioned with medical support. As the umbilical cord had not yet been cut, mother and child were shifted to hospital without delay. Both are reported safe and stable as on Sunday, Nila added.
