A multi-storey building collapsed in South Delhi's Mehrauli area on Saturday evening, triggering a large-scale rescue operation. The incident occurred in the Saeedulajab locality, where emergency teams including the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, police and DDMA rushed to the site. According to officials, at least nine people have been rescued from the debris so far, while search operations continue amid fears that more individuals may still be trapped beneath the rubble. Delhi Fire Service received the alert around 7:44 pm and deployed six fire tenders along with additional manpower. South Delhi DCP Anant Mittal said the collapsed structure was an old building and debris had fallen onto a nearby structure reportedly being used as a canteen for medical students. Authorities created a green corridor to facilitate ambulance movement as rescuers worked through the night. The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined and officials say the priority remains saving lives and locating anyone still trapped.
