Meerut: A 45-year-old man allegedly shot himself in the leg in an attempt to falsely implicate his younger brother over a property dispute in Khurja area of Bulandshahr. Police on Tuesday registered a case under Arms Act and BNS sections against him. The incident, which was caught on video, has since surfaced on social media.
According to police officers, the dispute involves Sanjay Solanki and his elder brother, Mithun Solanki, who has been living in Noida with his family and works as property dealer.
On Monday evening, Mithun arrived at his native village along with a few other men and began abusing and threatening family members while carrying a country-made pistol.
Police said that shortly after the altercation, Mithun allegedly shot himself in the left leg, leaving him injured. He then informed the police that his younger brother had fired at him. Family members rushed him to the district hospital.
Circle Officer Shobhit Kumar said police questioned Mithun. The case took a different turn when a video of the incident began circulating on social media, allegedly showing Mithun shooting at himself.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the man may have injured himself to falsely frame his brother. There is a property dispute between them. We are verifying the authenticity of the video and all aspects of the case. An FIR was registered under BNS 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3/25 Arms Act,” said Kumar.
Police added that Mithun holds a criminal history and had cases registered against him under fraud and cheating registered at Chola police station in Bulandshahr.
