Tension escalated in several parts of West Bengal after multiple incidents of political violence involving crude bombs were reported from Howrah and North 24 Parganas. In Howrah’s Shibpur area, multiple crude bombs allegedly exploded, triggering panic and injuring several residents. Eyewitnesses claimed bricks were hurled during the violence, while Rapid Action Force personnel and heavy police deployment were brought in to restore order. BJP Minority Cell leader Manoj Khan was reportedly the target of one of the attacks, while local residents alleged that nearly seven bombs exploded and gunshots were also fired. Meanwhile, in Panihati, at least five BJP supporters were allegedly injured after unidentified assailants hurled crude bombs near St Xavier’s Institution. The BJP accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating retaliatory violence following the killing of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of Suvendu Adhikari. Police said investigations are underway and strict vigil is being maintained in both areas.
