Meerut receives heavy rainfall, water logging reported; health dept on its toes to prevent creation of breeding grounds
Meerut: Meerut received heavy rainfall on Monday, which led to water logging in some parts of the city. The maximum and minimum temperatures of the city dipped drastically and the health department officials were seen on their toes to prevent creation of any breeding ground for mosquitoes – which in turn lead to mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.“The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Monday in Meerut were 34.2 degree Celsius and 25.9 degree Celsius, respectively. The maximum and minimum humidity levels recorded here on Monday were 85% and 69% respectively,” said Brij Mohan, Met in-charge, Meerut. The city recorded 2 mm rainfall on Monday, making the monthly total 128.1 mm. Water logging was reported from various parts of the city including Khair Nagar, Gola Kuan and others.“Despite several claims from municipal corporation authorities every year, there seems to be no solution for water logging at all. This leads to the rise in diseases and commutation problems,” said Praveen Arora, a city-based businessman.Meanwhile, the health department is on its toes to ensure that no breeding ground for mosquitoes remains in the city. “The teams of malaria department are conducting container surveys in different parts of the city to see that no larvae is present in them. Also, fogging is being done continuously to make sure that the city is mosquito-free,” said Satya Prakash, Meerut district malaria officer.
