MEERUT: In two days after The Godfather-inspired gangster Badan Singh Baddo, 48, escaped from police custody, UP Police has raised the reward on him to Rs 1 lakh, which would further be increased to Rs 2.5 lakh after the DGP’s approval.

This brings Baddo in league of the state’s most wanted criminals, like Babuli Kol, a dreaded dacoit from Chitrakoot (Rs 5 lakh), and Monu Gurjar, a hardened criminal from Meerut (Rs 2 lakh).
Baddo, 48, has more than 30 cases of murder, loot, robbery and extortion lodged against him at various police stations in Meerut and adjoining districts. Baddo was sentenced to life on October 31, 2017, for the murder of Ravinder Singh, a lawyer, in 1996.
The don, serving life sentence in Fatehgarh Central Jail, had escaped after he was brought to Meerut soon after his hearing at a Ghaziabad court on Thursday morning.
Known for his bespoke tuxedos, designer shades, Swiss watches and luxury vehicles, the gangster owns a palatial house in Meerut and is said to own businesses in Australia where his estranged wife and daughters are already settled.
A lookout notice has also been issued amid fears that Baddo may have fled the country.
A diehard fan of Al Pacino, the gangster is said to have adopted over the years the mannerism and gait of Michael Corleone, The Godfather protagonist played by Pacino in the iconic film.
