MEERUT: Following the Allahabad high court’s order, the executive council (EC) meeting of Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) was held on Saturday. The meeting decided to give joining to Prof AP Garg with immediate effect. Besides, 93 scholars were recommended to be awarded PhD degrees, one for LLD and two for D Lit degrees.
Prof Garg, who was then a professor in the department of microbiology, was appointed as professor in the department of botany in 2002.

However, when he sought leave for a year from the microbiology department to join botany, the varsity allegedly appointed Dr Y Vimla on the post of professor there. Later, he was also sacked from the microbiology department.
Prof Garg first complained to the Governor house and then approached the HC on December 2, 2008. After getting no justice from the chancellor (governor), he approached the HC on May 6 this year. The court decided in his favour and asked the varsity to give him joining as a professor in the microbiology department. His joining orders finally came on Saturday.
Assistant spokesperson of CCSU, Dr Prashant Kumar said, “During the EC, vice chancellor NK Taneja appointed Prof SP Singh of Kurukshetra University as a new EC member. The panel gave its nod for awarding 93 PhD degrees as well as one LLD and two DLit degrees. The EC also finalized the name of Prof Kapil Kapoor, former pro VC of JNU as chief guest in the convocation ceremony.”
In the matter of one Sandeep Pahal, the EC recommended that his thesis be sent to a new panel of examiners. “My thesis was rejected by an examiner on the directions of the then VC. When I found about the report through RTI, I submitted my representation at the varsity. My thesis will be sent to a different panel for re-examination,”
added Sandeep.
