5 pose as CBI officers, loot cash & jewellery worth Rs 50L from UP trader, heldMeerut: Five robbers who allegedly looted cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 50 lakh from a trader's house by posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers were arrested in Bulandshahr on Wednesday.On Dec 19 around 9 am, the gang reached the residence of a local construction material trader, Shankar Bhagwan Agarwal (51), in Pokhar locality under Anupshahr police station, claiming they were CBI officers and had come to serve a notice.After gaining entry, the robbers threatened the family at gunpoint, tied them up and decamped with valuables and cash. Agarwal's wife, daughter-in-law and two minor children were present in the house. The robbers also claimed that Agarwal's son Abhishek (25), who had left the house in the morning to open the family's shop, was in their custody and he would be shot dead if they resisted."The thieves were captured on a nearby CCTVs, and this helped police track and apprehend the criminals. We recovered cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 50 lakh, including 280 grammes of gold, some silver ornaments and Rs 13.5 lakh in cash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a former servant, Sanjay Sharma, knew about the valuables kept in the house and tipped off the gang," said SSP Dinesh Kumar.Police said Sanjay was earlier jailed in an assault case, during which he came in contact with hardened criminals Rakesh Yadav, Yashpal alias Raja Yadav and other gang members. He informed them that cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 1 crore were kept in the trader's house.After the gang members came out on bail in Sept 2025, they first did a recce before executing the robbery.The arrested accused are Inderpal alias Tau, Rakesh Kumar and Sachin Kumar (all three from Aligarh), Sanjay Sharma and Yashpal from Bulandshahr.SP (Rural) Tejveer Singh told TOI that Inderpal is a notorious criminal with over two dozen cases of loot, dacoity, attempt to murder, etc, registered against him across Surat, Delhi, Mathura, Bulandshahr, Faridabad and other districts.After the case was solved, DGP Rajeev Krishna and Meerut zone ADG Bhanu Bhaskar announced a reward of ₹50,000 each for the police team.
