38-year-old paediatrician shot dead by ‘patient’ in UP clinic

BIJNOR: A 38-year-old paediatrician from Ghaziabad was shot dead inside his private clinic in Nagina town of Bijnor district by a man posing as a patient on Thursday evening, police said.Dr Rajkumar, originally from Nandgram area of Ghaziabad, had been running a hospital named Shivalaya Health Care on the Nagina–Dhampur road for the past three years.According to another doctor who was with Dr Rajkumar in the latter's cabin, a man in his mid-20s entered the clinic posing as a patient and approached the doctor with a blood test report. When Rajkumar was looking at the report, the man took out a gun and fired at the doctor, who collapsed in his chair and started bleeding heavily. The attacker then rushed out of the clinic and fled.Hospital staff and locals rushed the doctor to Nagina govt hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Police officers, including Nagina CO Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi, reached the clinic after receiving information about the incident. SP (Rural) Prakash Kumar confirmed that the doctor was shot dead and said police teams were deployed to trace the accused.
Police later recovered an abandoned motorcycle, suspected to belong to the attacker, from near the clinic. Police said the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, and a probe is on. Based on a complaint by the doctor's sister, a case was registered against one Vikas Kumar alias Chhotu, a resident of Tibadi village, under BNS Section 103 (culpable homicide).
