Shamli: Police on Monday returned 342 lost and stolen mobile phones, worth around Rs 65 lakh, to their owners at a ceremony held at Police Lines in Bareilly. City SP Manush Pareek led the event and handed over the devices.
The recovered phones, including smartphones and keypad models, were traced using technical surveillance, cyber cell efforts, and coordination with police teams across districts and states. Each handset was verified using complaint records and IMEI numbers before being returned.
SP Pareek said, "the initiative was part of a mission-mode campaign to address complaints related to lost and stolen mobiles." He said the aim was to curb crime while ensuring quick relief to citizens, adding that the drive would continue.
A recipient said her phone had important documents and memories, and she had lost hope of recovery. Police also urged citizens to report losses promptly and keep IMEI numbers noted.
