27yo Muslim woman undertakes Kanwar Yatra in burqa
Bijnor: A 27-year-old Muslim woman from Badanpur Basai village in Sambhal district has undertaken the Kanwar Yatra, drawing attention for walking the pilgrimage route dressed in a burqa and carrying holy Ganga water to offer to Lord Shiva.Tamanna Malik began the foot journey from Haridwar and is heading towards her village to perform the ritual ablution of Lord Shiva. When her procession entered Bijnor on Friday evening, locals welcomed her by garlanding her and taking photographs.More than 100 devotees are accompanying Malik, chanting "Bol Bhole Bam" along the route. Police personnel have been deployed with the group to maintain law and order and ensure the pilgrimage proceeds peacefully. On Saturday morning, the group reached Amroha, where members of Hindu organisations welcomed Malik and lauded her devotion. Given the distinctive nature of the pilgrimage, the district administration remains alert and is facilitating her safe passage.Malik, who married a local farmer (28) three years ago and has two sons with him, said she had taken a vow before her marriage to undertake the Kanwar Yatra on foot if her wedding was solemnised and to offer Ganga water to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri.
