MEERUT: Buoyed by her emphatic win in Kairana Lok Sabha bypoll, grand alliance candidate Tabassum Hasan on Thursday launched a scathing attack on
BJP, terming the party “arrogant”. “This is a triumph of truth over a government which is riding on lies and jumlas. The grand alliance is going strong and we will only grow stronger with time,” she said.
Soon after emerging victorious, the grand alliance candidate thanked her allies for their efforts.
“Because of its arrogance, the BJP had started claiming that there is no alternative to the party. Our alliance has emerged as a viable alternative and we will ensure that the ruling party bites dust even in 2019,” she said.
Tabassum, widow of former Kairana MP Munnavar Hasan and mother of Nahid Hasan, an MLA from Kairana, is part of the influential Hasan family that enjoys a considerable clout in the region.
Sticking to her stand on “faulty EVMs”, she asserted that such machines should not be used in next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Mriganka Singh congratulated the grand alliance candidate for her victory. “A large number of people voted for the BJP but it is the alliance that has won. I would like to congratulate its candidate. The alliance has come out strong and we will have to prepare better in future,” she said.
