Youth held for growing ganja on rooftop

Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli city police arrested a 19-year-old youth on Wednesday for allegedly growing a ganja plant on the terrace of a residential building.The arrested was identified as Mariyappan, a resident of Madha Poongodi Street. Police sources said that, acting on a specific tip-off, a police team led by Tirunelveli Town sub-inspector Pandi conducted a surprise raid at a residence on Pugazhenthi Street. During the search, police found a well-tended ganja plant weighing approximately 220g, cultivated on the rooftop. The Tirunelveli town police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Mariyappan was subsequently arrested and is currently being interrogated to determine whether he intended to sell the contraband or whether others were involved in the illegal activity. Further investigations are under way.
