Three juveniles held for hurling petrol-filled bottle at police outpost
Tirunelveli: Three juveniles were apprehended by Tirunelveli district police on Tuesday for allegedly hurling a petrol-filled bottle at the Ramayanpatti police outpost, a day after they were questioned during a routine patrol in the Manur police station limits.According to police sources, on Monday evening, sub-inspector Sajeev and his team were on routine patrol near Veppankulam at around 6.30pm, when they noticed three minors, one aged 17 and the rest aged 16, all studying Class X, standing suspiciously with a motorcycle in an inebriated state. When questioned, the juveniles reportedly gave evasive replies, prompting the police to ask them to appear at the Manur police station the following morning along with their parents for further inquiry. However, later that night, at around 9.30, the three juveniles allegedly arrived at the Ramayanpatti police outpost and hurled a petrol-filled bottle at the compound wall in an apparent attempt to set the premises ablaze. Police said the bottle did not cause any damage and no injuries were reported.Based on inquiries conducted on Tuesday morning, police identified and apprehended the three minors, all residents of Sivaji Nagar in Ramayanpatti.Preliminary investigation revealed that the juveniles were angered over being called for police enquiry, which led to the act.A case has been registered and legal proceedings have been initiated. The minors will be produced before the juvenile justice board, and further investigation is under way.Addressing reporters, Tirunelveli district superintendent of police V Prassannakumar said that the juveniles confessed to the crime. They stated that they hurled the petrol bottles out of fear, as the police were asking them to appear at the police station, and now they are feeling remorse for the crime.
