Madurai: The city corporation has floated a tender for laying a rubberised interlocking paver block road at Karumbalai East Street in ward 31. The project is estimated to cost Rs 16.41 lakh.
The scope of work includes dismantling the existing worn-out paver blocks and laying new high-strength, rubberised interlocking ones. To prevent waterlogging, the existing manholes will be raised and realigned by 25cm.
A corporation official said the new road will improve the quality of inner and side streets. "The new blocks are high-strength M40-grade paver blocks, and they will be laid in a herringbone pattern, ensuring that the structural integrity of the road is maintained and making it more resistant to damage from vehicles or weather," the official said. "We are planning to lay such roads in other streets as well."
