Dindigul: Three people, including a couple, were electrocuted following a suspected power leakage at a residence in Athoor Agraharam in Dindigul district on Monday night.Police identified the deceased as Karuppaiah, 44, a mason, his wife Sudha, 34, and Subramani Siva, 20, a college student living with his parents on the ground floor. Karuppaiah and Sudha were residing in the first floor of the house with two daughters, aged 15 and 12.Police said after a light rain around 9.30pm, Karuppaiah attempted to go upstairs. He reportedly touched the steel railing on the terrace and was electrocuted. Sudha and Subramani Siva rushed to aid, but the duo were also electrocuted.Neighbours alerted the electricity board, which disconnected the power supply. They rushed all three to Athoor govt hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival. The bodies were sent to Dindigul Govt Medical College Hospital for autopsySempatti police inspector Saravanan said the preliminary inspection revealed no leakage from overhead power lines on the terrace. Initial findings suggested electrocution due to leakage from corroded internal wiring, which could have passed electricity on to the steel railings. Police registered a case and are investigating. Officials from the electricity board inspected the site and facilitated necessary measures to prevent any further untoward incidents.
