Madurai: The Madurai city unit of Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers paid tributes to freedom fighter Barrister George Joseph on Thursday, on his 88th death anniversary.
The association passed resolutions calling upon the state govt to recognise his legacy by hosting an official govt ceremony in his honour every year. Additionally, they urged the establishment of a memorial in Madurai to commemorate his legal victory against the oppressive Criminal Tribes Act and his service to the Indian Independence movement.

Deputy mayor T Nagarajan paid his respects to George Joseph alongside district office-bearers of the association.
District committee members Jyothibasu, Bonyface, Muthu, and Rajendran were also present. The family members of Barrister George Joseph joined the gathering.
The participants raised slogans emphasising the need for the younger generation to be educated about the ‘Barrister', highlighting how he sacrificed a lucrative legal career to join the Non-Cooperation Movement and serve the people of southern Tamil Nadu.
