Community baby shower ceremony held in Madurai

Madurai: The minister for information technology and digital services, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, inaugurated a baby shower ceremony for pregnant women at Ellis Nagar in Madurai on Sunday.The minister distributed baby shower gifts and ceremonial offerings to around 150 women participating in the programme. The pregnant women were garlanded and presented with saris, fruits, nutritional supplements and bangles. M Sheela Sundari, district project officer in the department of social welfare and women's rights, said there is a need to create greater awareness of the importance of timely healthcare, balanced nutrition and institutional support during pregnancy. She said such steps play a vital role in ensuring safe motherhood and healthy outcomes for both mother and child. The event was organised under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, which promotes nutritional and overall well-being of expectant mothers.
