Madurai: A 20-year-old youth and his uncle died of electrocution as they came in contact with a live electric wire in their agricultural land in T Narayanapuram village on Friday. The deceased were identified as Srikrishnan, 20, and his uncle, Adhinarayanan, 55. The latter's father Chinnathambi, 79, sustained injuries.
Police said Srikrishnan was a second-year engineering student at a college in Madurai. Around 7.45am on Friday, he and his uncle Adhinarayanan, who worked as a TNSTC driver in Thiruppuvanam in Sivaganga district, went to their agricultural land to cut grass to feed their cattle.
While cutting the grass, Srikrishnan came in contact with a live electric wire that snapped. As he cried out for help, Adhinarayanan and Chinnathambi rushed to help him, but they also were electrocuted. Adhinarayanan died on the spot, while villagers rushed Srikrishnan and Chinnathambi to Vadipatti govt hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared Srikrishnan brought dead. Chinnathambi was referred to Govt Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for further treatment. Vadipatti police registered a case, and further investigation is under way.
