Glada razes unauthorised colony in Ludhiana district’s Sahnewal action
Ludhiana: The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) continued its aggressive campaign against illegal urban sprawl on Wednesday, demolishing an unauthorised colony in Sahnewal. The operation, ordered by Punjab's housing and urban development minister, Hardeep Singh Mundian, and Glada chief administrator, Sandeep Kumar, targeted developers who reportedly had ignored multiple legal notices to halt construction. A specialised enforcement team carried out the demolition and sealing campaign, which officials said went unopposed.
The authority has confirmed it will now pursue criminal charges and the registration of FIRs against the developers involved. A Glada spokesperson stated that the department was maintaining a "zero-tolerance" stance against unplanned development. The current drive specifically targets "fraudulent" real-estate developers who lure buyers with the promise of cheap plots that lack essential legal approvals. The spokesperson said: "A special drive has been launched to take punitive action against those fleecing innocent residents under the garb of offering cheaper plots in colonies that lack statutory sanction."No Amenities for Illegal PlotsChief cdministrator Sandeep Kumar issued a stern advisory to the public, warning that investments in unapproved colonies come with permanent infrastructure risks. Key warnings for prospective buyers are about service exclusion, verification requirement, and map compliance. Any property within unauthorized colonies will not get water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections from Glada. It has advised buyers to visit the official Glada website to view the list of approved and regularised colonies. Only projects with govt-sanctioned layout maps are considered legal for purchase. This demolition is the latest in a series of enforcement actions across the Ludhiana district. Similar campaigns have taken place recently in Manakwal, Mehmoodpura, and Pohir, as the state govt seeks to curb the growth of unregulated settlements.MSID:: 128206324 413 |
