City experiences cool interlude in peak summer

Ludhiana: Just as residents began experiencing hot weather, conditions changed abruptly on Monday, with the sky turning dark for a while and daytime temperatures dropping below normal. The met department has predicted a weather disturbance in the district over the next two days.

While the morning was sunny, dark clouds rolled in around afternoon before the sun reappeared. A cool breeze continued to blow across the city. According to the weather department, maximum temperature in Ludhiana was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees below normal and one degree higher than the previous day.

Minimum temperature was recorded at 23.4 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degree above normal and 1.2 degrees lower than a day earlier.

With near-normal temperatures recorded on Monday, the met department issued a yellow alert for Ludhiana for the next two days. Winds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, along with thunderstorms and lightning have been forecast. The yellow alert has been issued to warn local authorities and residents about possible weather conditions. The met department has also forecast rise in temperatures in the coming days.

The sudden change in weather during the afternoon provided relief from heatwave-like conditions but caught many residents off guard, especially those who had stepped out earlier under clear skies.

Daljit Singh, a resident of BRS Nagar, said the weather shift came without warning. “It was quite hot since morning, and there was no indication that the weather would change so drastically. By afternoon, the sky suddenly turned dark and strong winds started blowing. While the drop in temperature brought relief, the abrupt change did catch many of us off guard,” he said.
