LMC inaugurates waste disposal plant in Gomti Nagar extn

Lucknow: To make garbage disposal more efficient, Lucknow Municipal Corporation will now use a Fixed Compactor Transfer Station (FCTS) facility to treat huge tones of waste collected from different parts of the city.The plant, located at Bhainsora in Gomti Nagar extension was inaugurated by UP urban development and energy minister AK Sharma in the presence of mayor Sushma Kharkwal and senior civic officials on Thursday.An FCTS is a facility where garbage from different areas is compressed through automated compactors and transported in bulk to disposal sites.Built at a cost of around Rs 9 crore, officials said that the plant can process nearly 150 tonnes of waste every day.Officials said the system will improve waste collection and cleanliness in areas such as Bharwara, Malhaur, Khargapur and Gomti Nagar Extension by reducing open dumping and speeding up garbage lifting.According to Sharma, the govt was focusing on using modern technology to make cities cleaner and environmentally sustainable. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal said the civic body’s aim was to make Lucknow one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country. Officials said Lucknow Municipal Corporation has identified 51 sites across eight zones for the development these facilities. Of these, work has been completed at 24 sites, while construction is underway at 15 locations.
