Junior engineer arrested for accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe in UP

LUCKNOW: A team from the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment arrested Satendra Yadav, a junior engineer in the Public Works Department (PWD) of Hardoi district, on Monday for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The arrest was made during a trap operation conducted in Lucknow.A complaint was filed by contractor Mahendra Kumar Tripathi, a resident of Manas Nagar, Hazratganj, Lucknow.Tripathi in his complaint had alleged that he had constructed a road under the PMGSY scheme in Hardoi, for which a pending payment of Rs 40 lakh was due.Satendra Yadav had allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh as a bribe, claiming it as his share for approving an inflated bill. After persistent pressure, Yadav agreed to accept the first installment of Rs 1 lakh on December 2, 2024.Following a covert investigation that confirmed the allegations, the vigilance team caught Yadav red-handed accepting the bribe.An FIR has been registered, and legal proceedings are underway.Vigilance Establishment officers said that citizens are encouraged to report bribery cases to the anti-corruption helpline at 9454401868.
